FlashRouters started nine years ago with the purpose of helping users take control of their privacy. Since shipping our first DD-WRT VPN router in early 2011, our team has worked tirelessly to expand our offerings. From a plethora of solutions for advanced router configurations to supporting 60+ VPN providers to releasing the easy-to-use FR Router Privacy App, our commitment to innovation leads us forward.

For the better part of a year, we’ve been digging through data feedback and data from you, the customer. Our modus operandi was to find the best way to progress and build out the best in alternative router firmware and VPN integration solutions with a priority on privacy and security.

As we approach our ninth anniversary, we’re happy to announce the latest iteration of the mothership, FlashRouters 2020 – The Reboot!

1. Lower Router Prices

SITEWIDE! The router prices we are offering are the lowest they’ve ever been!

FlashRouters has long focused on providing a specialized networking/privacy device solution with customization and expertise at its heart. Our FlashRouters are flashed on-demand in our offices in New Jersey and pre-configured free-of-charge. In those same offices, our expert support team is specially trained and dedicated to handling the needs of open source firmware and VPN service users.


Since our inception, a FlashRouter has been a bundled router and US-based tech support with 1-on-1 remote support on-demand all in the price of the device we sold and shipped, as well as an open-source hardware warranty. Flashing voids the manufacturer warranty on the router, so we take it upon ourselves to offer a hardware guarantee.

Moving forward our focus is increasing the competitiveness and transparency of our pricing by separating it into two parts: the router (flashing/warranty) as the device price and service (tech support level/router app/additional service updates) to provide an array of options and clarity to users. And don’t worry, FlashRouters takes product performance very seriously which is why we also expanded our standard open-source warranty from 90 days to 1-Year!

2. Lower Priced Service Plans

FlashRouters takes pride in our exclusively US-based support team. For a long time, a flat support rate came bundled into the cost of the router providing one level of service for all users. However, that’s no longer the case on the new FlashRouters site!

The ability to choose levels of service has always been a top request among a segment of our users. Some users want a bit of backup with e-mail only support, while others want to be helped every step of the way with our VERY popular one-on-one support sessions. Our plans provide custom levels for networking newbies, enterprise experts, and everywhere in between!

Customers can customize their service experience with prices as low as $15 (versus the previous $100 minimum) across three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. And, as of June 2020, we’ve expanded the levels of service we provide to include a no-service option. Users can now choose to purchase the router without service.

One of our main tenets, when it came to redesigning the site, was giving users more flexibility on the level of service they want with their custom-configured FlashRouter. Some users may not want or are unsure about the level of assistance they require with their purchase. So, rather than choosing a particular service plan, only to realize that they’re looking for a different solution, users can make their decision once their router arrives.

Bronze Service Plan

Price: $5/mo or $48/yr (Save 20%)

    • The FlashRouters Help Center features comprehensive setup guides, troubleshooting guides, and an extensive FAQ Section.

    • Running into trouble with your router or setup? No worries. Just shoot us an email and our US-based support team will respond within 72 hours.
  • 1-on-1 Support Sessions
    • Customers can purchase a 1-on-1 expert help session at a reduced price of $75/session (versus $100 for customers not purchasing with a router).

Silver Service Plan

Price: $10/mo or $96/yr (Save 20%)

Silver-tier support customers unlock all of the benefits of the Bronze Tier, plus:

    • A 1-on-1 remote support session comes included (up to 4 with a yearly plan subscription!) with the plan. In a jam? Our US-based Expert Support Team will connect to your network remotely and diagnose your issues.
  • Lowest Cost Additional Support Sessions

3. Streamlined Design, Simplified Navigation

The site has been redesigned with a fresh, clean aesthetic. Now, it’ll easier to use and find information, and MOST importantly, have been optimized for snappier load times (including on mobile!).

The Router Page is now streamlined for better performance, and visual explanations or our devices, apps, and services. Users can now easily find the best aspects of the app, without being buried under a pile of text.

One of our biggest updates is our new learn section! We’ve streamlined everything. Users can easily find the best FlashRouters from their favorite:

4. New Flash My Router Plan

Another top request was the BYOD FlashMyRouter Service Plan for users already owning a compatible device for our firmware and app. This is also a popular option for users in countries with spotty delivery or high VAT and taxes.

Users can now purchase a specific flashing plan for the router of their choice. With this plan, our configuration team will flash your router with open-source firmware and help you set up your network. The support plan includes:
