Apple launched its new streaming service, Apple TV+, on November 1, 2019, featuring original content produced and released by Apple. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple TV+.
What Is Apple TV+?
Apple TV+ is Apple’s new streaming service, offering originally produced TV and movie content. This content is produced by familiar names like Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and Octavia Spencer.
AppleTV+ is the latest streaming service to offer original content, following in the new tradition set by Amazon and Netflix.
What Channels/Shows Are Available On Apple TV Plus?
At the time of launch, the platform features eight original series, as well as one original film.
Morning Show
Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carrell star in a fictional morning news program The Morning Show. The show is loosely based on the book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, by Brian Stelter. The show also stars Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass.
Critics have been relatively positive about the show, with many praising the performance of the actors. Anniston, Witherspoon, Carrell, and Crudup, were all nominated for a number of 2020 Awards, including the SAGs and the Golden Globes. And, Apple has already greenlit the show for a second season.
Dickinson
Dickinson, a period comedy with modern about 19th-century poet Emily Dickinson, starring Hailee Steinfeld as Dickinson. While the show is set in Dickinson’s time period, it explores modern themes.
For All Mankind
Starring Joel Kinnaman, this science fiction series explores an alternate history in which the Soviet Union lands on the Moon before the United States.

Set 600 years into the future, this science fiction series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which a virus has eliminated humanity’s ability to see. The series stars Jason Momoa, Sylvia Hoeks, Alfre Woodard, and more.
Ghostwriter
Almost 25 years after the final episode of Liz Nealon’s children’s show left the airwaves, Apple TV+ is bringing it back. The series follows a circle of middle-schooled aged detectives as they solve crimes in the Brooklyn area, with the help of their ghost friend, Ghostwriter.
Helpsters
For parents and children, Big Bird will appear in a spinoff of Sesame Street, titled Helpsters. The show follows Cody and his friends, the Helpsters, monsters who like to solve problems.
Oprah’s Book Club
For over a decade, Oprah’s Book Club featured as a staple of The Oprah Winfrey Show. The segment featured a book, usually novel of the month for reading and discussion. While the segment ended in 2010, an online version of the list started in 2012.
On Apple TV+, the segment is back. Each month, Oprah will sit down and discuss a book of her choice. Oprah will also work on several new documentaries for the streaming service.
Snoopy in Space
Everyone’s favorite Peanuts canine is back! This time, Snoopy fulfills his life-long dream of becoming an astronaut for NASA. Follow him, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the gang, as they travel to space.
The Elephant Queen
Released at Sundance in January 2019, this nature documentary follows the journey of Athena, a 50-year old elephant, and herd matriarch, as she and her herd travel in search of water. The film is narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Truth Be Told
Based on the novel Are You Sleeping, by Kathleen Barber. The series stars Octavia Spencer as Poppy Parnell as a true-crime investigator/podcaster called to revisit the case that brought her to fame, the murder of Stanford a professor by 16-year-old Warren Cave (Aaron Paul). Now, 20 years after she incriminated Cave, she must face Cave, the facts of the case, and the professor’s identical twin daughters (Lizzy Caplan). Apple released all three episodes of the series on December 6th, 2019.
What’s Next on Apple TV Plus?
Over the coming months, the platform will expand its offering. Steven Spielberg is bringing a reboot of his anthology series, Amazing Stories, to Apple’s platform soon after launch.
These titles are only the tip of the iceberg for Apple. Apple is also offering an “Ã la carte” subscription service, allowing customers to only pay for channels that they want. This includes HBO, Showtime, Starz, and many more.

Upon launch, the content will be available for streaming from the Apple TV+ app on your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Smart TVs, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV devices.
