The service is available on nearly all popular platforms and devices such as Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Android TV, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And despite initial fears, Disney+ is available on Amazon Fire, after Amazon and Disney penned a last-minute agreement.

How Much Does Disney+ Cost?

At the moment, Disney+ costs $6.99/month or $69.99. However, the company has indicated that starting March 26, prices will be going up for new subscribers to $7.99/month or $79.99. Existing subscribers will see price hikes on August 23.

Does Disney+ Offer a Free Trial?

When Disney+ initially launched in 2019 it offered a trial option to US and UK residents. However, that option has since disappeared in those countries. The service does offer free trials in:

  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Mexico
  • Peru

How Can I Save on Disney+?

While Disney+ no longer offers free trials in the US, the service does offer a bundle option. For $12.99/month, users can sign up for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

Where is Disney Plus Available for Streaming?

The service launched in Canada, the United States, and the Netherlands on November 12, 2019. Australia, Puerto Rico, and New Zealand got it the following week on November 19.

Disney Plus Expansion in 2020 and Beyond

Originally, the service was to expand into Europe in March 2020. However, due to global events, Disney has delayed expansion into several markets.

At the moment, Disney has launched in several countries in Western Europe, including Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK on March 24, 2020, as well as France on April 7. At the same time, Disney announced mandatory quality drops to meet unprecedented streaming needs. Users in many Western European markets experienced a significant drop in quality of at least 25%!

In Asia, the service launched exclusively via Hotstar in India on April 3 and on June 11 in Japan, exclusively via NTT Docomo.

In September, the service expanded its European presence, launching in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden, as well as launching in Indonesia.

On November 17, Disney+ expanded its Latin American presence, launching in:

  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Caribbean
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Mexico
  • Nicaragua
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela

And, in early 2021, the service launched in Singapore. Next, the company plans on expanding to:

  • Eastern Europe
  • Hong Kong
  • Malaysia
  • Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand

Do Disney+ Libraries Differ By Country?

Short answer, yes. Due to licensing rights in different countries, Disney Plus’s content library may vary from country to country. According to an investigation from 2020, the US version of Disney+ did not have access to titles like Mary Poppins Returns, while they were available in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. Conversely, US subscribers had first access to new shows.

While much of the content across the board is identical, there’s nothing worse than sitting down and discovering that the movie or show you looked forward to watching is unavailable in your area. What can you do to avoid this fate? Sign up for a VPN, of course!

Can I Watch Disney Plus With a VPN?

A Virtual Private Network tunnels a user’s connection to a remote server and back. This not only encrypts their web traffic but allows them to change their geo-location. Meaning, users are able to access their favorite show or movie on Disney+.

For example, if you’re in the US looking to stream a movie, only discover its available only in France, you can use a VPN to change your location to France, et voila, you can stream your favorite content, without stepping a foot outside.

Disney Plus with a VPN FlashRouter

Taking advantage of a Virtual Private Network via a client app, users are restricted to compatible devices. Moreover, popular streaming devices like Roku and Apple TV have no native VPN support. Fans who want to watch Disney+ from abroad on their media players or gaming consoles can do so using a FlashRouter.

A FlashRouter is a router that has been flashed with Open Source firmware. Moreover, flashing a router with Open Source firmware removes any bugs or backdoors found in the router’s factory settings and opens the door for the device to be used as a tunnel to the VPN server of their choice.
